I finally made the switch from kibble to homemade dog food for my 5-year-old Golden Retriever, Luna, and I wish I had done it sooner.
She used to have dry skin, irregular stools, and no interest in food. After researching a ton (and checking with my vet), I started this simple homemade recipe:
-
1 cup boiled chicken (no skin)
-
1/2 cup cooked brown rice
-
1/4 cup steamed carrots & peas
-
1/4 tsp fish oil
After 3 weeks:
Shinier coat
Smaller, firmer poops
She gets excited at mealtime again
I’m still learning, especially about the right balance of calcium and vitamins. Has anyone else tried homemade food? What recipe works for your dog? Open to feedback and ideas!
